Vintage Puffer Jacket Size Guide — How to Find Your Fit

Why Vintage Sizing is Different

Vintage puffer jackets from the 80s and 90s do not follow modern sizing standards — they generally run smaller. A vintage Men L might fit like a modern M. This is why at pufferseason, every listing includes exact measurements.

The Two Key Measurements

Length

Measured from the top of the collar straight down to the bottom hem. A classic 90s puffer typically measures 65 to 75 cm for a standard fit.

Pit to Pit (Chest Width)

Measured across the back from one armpit seam to the other. Double this number to get the total chest circumference. Example: 58 cm pit to pit equals approximately 116 cm chest.

General Sizing Guide

Vintage S: 48–52 cm pit to pit → modern XS–S
Vintage M: 52–56 cm → modern S–M
Vintage L: 56–60 cm → modern M–L
Vintage XL: 60–65 cm → modern L–XL
Vintage XXL: 65–70 cm → modern XL–XXL

Oversized or True to Fit?

For a fitted vintage puffer, choose a pit-to-pit within 2–3 cm of your chest measurement divided by 2. For an oversized look, go 5–8 cm larger.

Always Check the Measurements

At pufferseason, every product listing includes the exact length and pit-to-pit measurement. Measure a jacket you already own that fits well and compare — always more reliable than going by the label size alone.
